Meet Roc Chow, Founder & CEO, Generatr Inc./Panda Charging - startGBC May 2024 #WhyNotMe GBC Entrepreneur Spotlight

During the month of May, Canada reflects and celebrates Asian Heritage Month.  What better way for startGBC to honour this, than showcasing one of our amazing alumni entrepreneurs, born in China and now a proud Canadian, delivering incredible economic impact in Canada.

About Roc Chow

Roc has a Passion for helping people and a lifelong fascination with electronics is embedded in Roc's DNA.   Roc created Generatr Inc. in 2022, with a mission to facilitate collaboration between businesses in China and Canada, particularly in the dynamic realm of the Internet of Things (IoT). With a decade of expertise in the IoT sector, Generatr Inc. offers unparalleled global consulting services, fostering cross-border partnerships and technological advancements.

Roc is a native of China who now proudly calls Canada home.  Roc's unique background positions Generatr/Panda Charging as a bridge between cultures and industries.

A pivotal moment emerged when Roc recognized the challenges faced by Canadian startups seeking Chinese manufacturing partners and vice versa. Leveraging 10 years of IoT expertise, Roc identifies pain points and opportunities, ensuring seamless collaboration and mutual growth.

Fueled by a desire to impact society positively, Roc is committed to marrying the worlds of electronics and societal enhancement. This dedication finds expression in Roc's involvement with George Brown College's Proof of Concept project piloting at The George Residence in 2024. The goal is twofold: to provide a smart charging experience to students and faculty while nurturing electronics students through workshops and employment opportunities.

At the heart of Roc's mission lies the brand they've pioneered - "Panda Charging." This seamless and innovative smart device charging solution was born from Roc's recent trip to China, where he witnessed the wide adoption of shared power banks in daily life.

These power bank kiosks can be found everywhere - from coffee shops and restaurants to shops. Intrigued by the ubiquity and convenience, Roc was inspired to bridge the technological gap and bring this level of convenience to North America.  "Panda Charging" is more than a brand; it's a vision to transform charging experiences and eliminate the anxiety of losing digital connection.

By delivering a sustainable solution that encourages sharing, Roc envisions a future where convenience, connectivity, and conscious consumption coexist harmoniously. With the mantra of "Reduce, recharge, recycle," Roc strives to reshape how we power our devices and interact with technology.

Academic Background

Roc completed a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine and a diploma in T146 Electromechanical Engineering Technician and graduated in 2016.

What made you want to become an entrepreneur?

Driven by a passion for electronics and a desire for impact, I ventured into entrepreneurship. With a decade in the IoT field, I saw an opportunity to bridge business gaps between China and Canada. My diverse background uniquely equips me for cross-border collaborations and tackling industry challenges.

In the past year, I've achieved significant success in building my company. Notably, I've assisted two North American companies in establishing their solutions within the APAC region. Witnessing the satisfaction on both ends from the services I've provided has been immensely rewarding.
